Helping Thousands of Immigrants Tell Their Stories for More Than Eleven Years
Durazzo Declarations provides personal declaration writing services for immigrants seeking waivers, visas, asylum, and other forms of immigration relief. We work with individuals directly and in collaboration with the law firms representing them.
We understand how overwhelming and time-intensive it can be to put a person’s experiences into writing, particularly when the story involves trauma, separation, abuse, or fear. Our role is to give each client the time, patience, and support necessary to tell that story fully, then prepare a clear and detailed declaration that represents the client’s memories, reflections, and emotions faithfully.
Trauma-informed interviewing has been central to Santiago’s approach since he began this work while completing his undergraduate education in psychology. He is now continuing that training as a doctoral student in clinical psychology. His past and ongoing studies have strengthened his understanding of trauma, memory, emotion, and the importance of allowing people to share difficult experiences at their own pace.
Although a declaration interview is not therapy or a clinical service, this background helps Santiago approach sensitive conversations thoughtfully and compassionately, while it also guides how he trains and coaches the declaration writers on his team.
What began with Santiago interviewing and writing for English- and Spanish-speaking clients has grown into a thoughtfully selected multicultural/multilingual team. We can now conduct interviews in English, Spanish, Hindi, and Punjabi, with Spanish-to-English translation available when requested. Santiago remains personally involved as lead editor by reviewing the team’s work before it is delivered.
For more than eleven years, Durazzo Declarations has worked remotely with individuals and immigration firms throughout the United States. Because every firm has its own preferences, templates, and standards, we adapt our work to the needs of each legal team and remain available for corrections, additions, and feedback throughout the process.
Every declaration is written by a person. We do not use generative AI to draft, summarize, translate, analyze, or review client interviews or declarations. We treat every client’s information with care and maintain strict confidentiality throughout the process.

Leaving one’s home country due to poverty, violence, or both is, possibly, one of the hardest decisions someone can make. And yet, countless people feel forced to say goodbye to everything they have ever known, carrying with them the tiny glimmer of hope that they will provide something good for their loved ones.
From the struggles of growing up in a hostile environment, to the relief that attaining comfort and security in a new country through hard efforts represents, writing these stories is the main focus of my work.
U Visas
Despite having fled potentially life-threatening circumstances in their home countries, many immigrants become victims of truly traumatizing crimes after arriving in the U.S.
It is my diligence to approach these subjects with as much empathy as possible, making sure to put into words the feelings of the client - the emotional toll that such experiences leave on them.
T VISAS
If there is an experience worse than leaving one’s family behind, without knowing what horrors may happen along the way, it is nightmarish scenarios like human trafficking or forced inhumane working conditions becoming a reality.
Describing these accounts can be a challenge for many. My background in psychology allows me to treat the sensitive issues at hand carefully, making sure to emphasize how clients survived and became able to start a new life, often empowering them in the process.

There are, sadly, too many ways in which a spouse can abuse one’s trust, resulting in physical and psychological pain. There are also different degrees to this affliction, but each case has a story of struggle and loss behind it.
Capturing that sentiment in a letter while granting the client room to talk and process these memories often results in a cathartic and productive experience.

In today’s world, the U.S. has shined for its protection to immigrants fleeing from political unrest. These stories may contain a different set of struggles since, for example, the client may not have a background of extreme socioeconomic challenges.
In light of this, the complexity of the petitioner’s decision demands a detailed account of the personal and societal circumstances. Therefore, a description of the impact that having the life they knew taken away is also necessary.

Being proficient in both English and Spanish from a very young age, and a certified language teacher, has allowed me to work in document translation for years.
Despite no longer being a registered translator in Mexico, I have a vast experience in literary, technical, scientific, and legal translations. I am glad to say that my attention to detail has always been present in my work.
